The VCC Giving Tree, an annual project of the Christian Women’s Fellowship of the Victoria Christian Church, is now on display with other community trees at the Victoria Public Library. This year, donations will be given to meet special needs identified by the faculty at Victoria Elementary School (VES). The community is urged to bring donations for VES students to the library and leave them with the tree.
Requested Giving Tree school supplies include about 250 3-prong folders — not notebooks — to contain SOL study packets for each students, along with glue and cheap flashlights. Flashlight Friday is held each week, when classroom lights are cut off and students read using flashlights. It is a fun way to encourage the kids to read.
In addition, batteries for flashlights, earphones for the computer lab, electric or battery-operated pencil sharpeners for classroom (and batteries if the sharpener needs them) and packs of plain white copy paper are needed as well.
