Kenston Forest varsity softball off to 1-2 start

The Kenston Forest School varsity softball team went 1-1 Saturday in a one-day tournament at the Dinwiddie Sports Complex in Sutherland after opening the 2017 season two days prior with a 9-2 home loss to Central Virginia Homeschool.

In the season opener, the Lady Kavaliers were led by Rebecca Hadley and Savannah Gunn, who had one hit and one RBI apiece.

In Kenston Forest’s first game Saturday, it dominated Broadwater Academy, winning 13-1.

Rachel Moore had one hit and two RBIs, while Gunn added one hit and one RBI.

Eighth-grader Molly Epperson went 2-for-2 at the plate with four RBIs.

Mackenzie Coley and Haley Henshaw registered two RBIs, while Hadley Josie Epperson contributed one run batted in each for the game.

In the second game Saturday, the Lady Kavaliers lost 13-2 to perennial powerhouse Greenbrier Christian Academy.

Kenston Forest recorded nine hits in the contest. Gunn was 3-for-3 at the plate, Hadley was 2-for-4 and Mackenzie Coley and Haley Henshaw each had a hard hit single and an RBI.

Josie Epperson and Molly Epperson had one hit apiece.

Kenston Forest (1-2) had its Tuesday home game against Tidewater Academy postponed, but the Lady Kavs are slated to visit Trinity Episcopal School on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

Returning to the Dinwiddie Sports Complex on Friday, the Lady Kavs will begin competing in a two-day tournament by facing Isle of Wight Academy at 5:30 p.m.
