CHS produces four individual winners in outdoor track and field

Central High School’s varsity outdoor track and field teams were represented by four individual winners during the meet held at Amelia County High School on March 22.

The Lady Chargers placed second as a team with 45 points, while Amelia won with 67.

For the boys, the Chargers placed third with 30 points behind Amelia, which won with 67 points, and Bluestone High School, which took second with 61 points.

Central dominated in the girls 400-meter run, as sophomore Jakeriah Spraggins won with a time of one minute, 11 seconds. Sophomore Journee Coleman placed second with a time of 1:16 and senior Carnelia Davis placed third with a time of 1:19.

In the girls 300-meter hurdles, junior Zakiyyah Hurt took first place with a 1:02 time, while freshman Kendra Alexander came in second with a 1:05 time.

Sophomore Haley Hayer finished first in the girls 200-meter dash, crossing the line with a time of 31.8 seconds.

In the boys discus, Chargers senior Raymond Alexander claimed first place with a 112-foot, 9-inch throw.

Alexander was also strong in other events, placing second in the boys triple jump, with a 38-3 1/2 mark, and placing second in the boys shot put, with a 39-1/2 mark.

He also claimed fourth in the boys long jump with a leap of 17-11 3/4.

Also having a strong meet in different events was Hurt. She placed second in the girls long jump, with a 13-6 mark, second in the girls triple jump, with a 28-3 mark,  and second in the girls 100-meter hurdles, with a time of 20.2 seconds.

Other Central athletes placing second included senior Tyler Williams in the boys 200-meter dash, with a time of 26.2 seconds, and junior Morgan Hall in the girls 1600-meter run, with a time of 7:26.

Central’s track teams were active Tuesday and they return to competition Wednesday, April 5, at Goochland High School at 4:30 p.m.
