Egg hunts unite the community

Seeing and taking photos of the Easter Egg Hunts from Kenbridge and Victoria last week — notably the smiles of children reaching for their eggs and candy — brought my heart a great deal of joy.
While we published photos from both events, which were well-organized by the groups and entities involved, I had the opportunity to cover the egg hunt in Victoria, organized by the Town of Victoria and Klassy Divas Social Club at Victoria’s Railroad Park.
I don’t have children, and really don’t have a lot of friends or family members who have young children, so attending events that draw youth brings me a great deal of joy and pleasure.
Some of my favorite photos while working at The Dispatch and Farmville Newsmedia have involved children, especially photos that involve religious holidays.
Such events not only allow me to make memories through the lens of my camera and interaction with parents and their children, but they also allow for milestones in the hearts and minds of the children and their mothers, fathers, grandparents and other family members.
The Kenbridge and Victoria communities are full of great organizations, volunteers, churches and groups that bring people together in Lunenburg, uniting the community for a common cause.
I think that these Easter Egg Hunts in Victoria and Kenbridge — along with the many others held throughout the county — are great examples of people working together for the betterment of the community.
Not only do the events unite and bring people together, but they also spread joy to others.
As I was walking out of the park in Victoria after taking my last photo, I was stopped by a little girl who motioned that she had something for me.
Extending her hand to me, she opened her hand, offering me small blue smiley-face sticker.
After thanking her, I fixed it to my button-down shirt, my face matching its expression.
