MAY 14

WOMEN’S DAY SERVICE, 11 a.m. at Springfield Baptist Church in celebration of Mother’s Day. The speaker will be Melissa Robertson Wood from South Boston. Wood is a former resident of Lunenburg County. The community is requested to join in on this special occasion.

MOTHER’S DAY SERVICE, 11 a.m. at Cedar Creek Baptist Church, 2104 Jonesboro Road, Kenbridge. Speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Osa Dowdy. Everyone is welcome.

MAY 16

SONS OF CONFEDERATE VETERANS TO MEET, 6:30 p.m. at Sheldon’s Restaurant in Keysville. A Dutch Treat meal followed by short business meeting and a program at about 7:10 p.m. are on the agenda. Guest speaker will be Byron Brady, from North Carolina, who will talk about the “Escape Route of John Wilkes Booth.” He will follow all 12 days after the assassination of Lincoln. This is an open meeting and all are welcome to attend.

MAY 16-18

ANNUAL REVIVAL SERVICES, 7 p.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church,1197 Burkeville Road, (Route 723) Victoria. The Tuesday night guest pastor will include the Rev. James Green, from Pleasant Oak Baptist Church and choir, Victoria; Wednesday night is the Rev. Kevin Robinson, St. Matthews Baptist Church and choir, Kenbridge; and Thursday night is the Rev. Travis Warren, Springhill Baptist Church and choir from Blackstone. All are welcome to attend.

MAY 19

29TH ANNUAL CREWE HOMECOMING FESTIVAL 5-9 p.m. at Hooper Park, Crewe. Fun for all ages, free admission, hot dogs, food, etc. for sale. On May 20 from 9:30-11:30 am., join in at the Crewe Community Center for friends, family and food. All-day celebrations include, arts, crafts, food, music and entertainment from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at Carolina Avenue, and music, food, vintage cars and a Civil War reenactment at the Crewe Park and Railroad Museum. The parade will begin at 3 p.m. on Carolina Avenue with Steve Winn as grand marshal.

MAY 20

“DOWN CENTRAL’S CORRIDORS – FIFTY YEARS LATER: CELEBRATION OF CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL’S 50TH ANNIVERSARY,” noon-4 p.m. Open house for the community, former students and faculty. There will be a brief program in the gym at 12:30 p.m. Exhibits of memorabilia are planned. Tours of sections of the school and field house are also planned. Light refreshments will be offered in the cafeteria.

MAY 21

WORSHIP SERVICE, 3 p.m. of the Usher Ministry of New Grove Baptist Church. Vanessa E. Hicks will be the guest preacher. The Gospel Chorus of St. Matthew’s Baptist Church will provide the music. Everyone is welcome.

SERVICES, 11 a.m. at Gilfield Baptist Church. The Rev. Gerard Wilson from Mt. Gazerine Baptist Church, Blackstone will preach.

USHER’S DAY, 3 p.m. at New Grove Baptist Church. The speaker of the hour will be The Rev. Vanessa E. Hicks, pastor of David Temple AME Zion Church of Courtland, Virginia. Music will be rendered by The Combined Voices of Zion of Brodnax, Virginia.Refreshments will be served after the service. Everyone

JUNE 16-18

CLOVER CAMP, at Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center in Appomattox, will be held June 16-18. Cloverbud Camp is designed to introduce children ages 5-8 to the 4-H camping experience. A trained volunteer leader will be present for every five campers. Cost will be $87 per camper if registered before May 26. After that, cost will be $97 per camper. JULY 3-7

LUNENBURG 4-H CAMP WEEK, at Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center in Appomattox. This camp is geared for all youth ages 9 – 13 (as of September 30, 2017). The total cost per child will be $195 which includes overnight lodging, meals, insurance, counselor and adult supervision, classes, program costs, camp tee shirt, and transportation to and from camp. Campers have the opportunity to participate in exciting classes, with many options to choose from: scuba, canoeing, riflery, archery, swimming and horsemanship, just to name a few. There are also swimming and recreation times, special evening events, songs, games and much more.
