Following a joint public hearing between county supervisors and the county’s Industrial Development Authority in Lunenburg, supervisors agreed to support the authority in its issuing bonds for Global Refining Group Inc. based in Kenbridge.

The bonds, not to exceed $10 million according to a public notice of the hearing, will allow Global to expand its current Kenbridge location and purchase a second catalytic converter processing system, representatives from Global confirmed.

During the board’s regular meeting, held May 11, representative Douglas Sbertoli, bond counsel for Global Refining, addressed supervisors.

During the joint public hearing, Sbertoli described how the bonds would be used — expanding Global’s current location in Kenbridge on its Main Street with a 30,000 square-foot building. This building would be an addition to the company’s 80,000 square-foot location.

The bonds would also be used for acquiring the second catalytic converter processing system, Global Commercial Sales Director Iga Wolotowski confirmed.

Global recycles catalytic converters and extracts the metals in the converters.

Only Sbertoli spoke during the hearing.

After Sbertoli offered his presentation, supervisors voted in support of the bonds.

Senior Corporate Office Manager Amanda Armes released a statement on behalf of Global on May 15, expressing support of the board’s decision.

The Lunenburg Industrial Development Authority issued industrial development bonds not to exceed $10 million, Armes said. She said Global’s Kenbridge location opened in 2014.

“With a combination of its own capital in addition to the bonds, the development of the second processing system is expected to create jobs in the field of system maintenance as well as the need for skilled employees who can operate the system,” Armes said in the statement. “This large-scale project will advance Global’s efforts in helping the environment, the recycling industry, local businesses and creating jobs in our own backyard.”

Armes thanked the board on behalf of the company.

“We extend our gratitude to all those involved in making this a reality and are anxious to bring yet another quality technological advancement to our industry,” the statement noted.

The Global location in Kenbridge has 27 employees, Armes said.
