There’s no doubt in our minds that the legacy of Dorothy “Dot” Crymes Tucker, who died last Wednesday, will continue to live on for many, many years, inspiring those who knew her and those who’ve only heard of her.
Tucker served as president, publisher and editor of Charlotte Publishing Inc., which owned and operated The Charlotte Gazette and The Kenbridge-Victoria Dispatch for many years.
Her impact on the community is evident through her involvement and generosity the people, organizations and projects across Charlotte and Lunenburg counties.
“It has been an honor for our family to deliver Charlotte County and Lunenburg news for all these years, and to be a part of preserving the county’s history,” Ms. Tucker said in a 2015 interview.
We think that communities across the two counties have been honored to have been served by Ms. Tucker and her family members, who are well-known for their work ethic, dedication and loyalty to both Lunenburg and Charlotte counties.
“She cared very deeply for Charlotte County and Lunenburg County,” her son, Bo, said during an interview last week.
“She was good to the community,” said Lucille Wood, who worked with the Tucker family for 41 years, many of which were spent with Ms. Tucker. “She helped with the Jackass Derby; she would donate to things. She just worked well with people.”
Ms. Tucker’s relationship with people was one that included much care and respect.
Ms. Tucker loved her communities, and it showed through her work at the newspapers, her generosity toward organizations and volunteerism.
It’s our hope we can continue to strive to live up to the level of dedication and service Ms. Tucker gave to the good people of this community.
It’s our hope the standard set by Tucker will be shared by those who live in our community.
