After stumbling out of the gate in the Dixie Youth Baseball state tournament, the Lunenburg County Youth Baseball League (LCYBL) Machine Pitch All-Stars put together three consecutive wins.

They entered Tuesday’s scheduled showdown against the Franklin All-Star team with a 3-1 record in the tourney.

“One thing we teach the kids is one game at a time,” LCYBL Machine Pitch Manager Lucy Hall said Monday. “We are looking to go 1-0 tomorrow. Mental focus is key for these kiddos. They are showing it!”

Lunenburg began its run in the tournament with a 13-8 loss to the South Hill All-Stars on Friday, followed by a 10-0 victory in five innings over the Bedford Metro All-Star team on Saturday.

The LCYBL Machine Pitch All-Stars toppled the Dinwiddie American All-Star squad 17-7 on Sunday.

Their first encounter with Franklin came Monday when they won 8-4.

“Tonight all 12 (players) did their job,” Hall said Monday. “We tell them all the time it takes all 12. It doesn’t matter if you hit first or last; your job is to hit the ball somewhere hard. If the bats keep coming on strong and the defense continues to perform, then we will get the job done tomorrow.
