Putting our best foot forward

Lunenburg County was a hub of state-level Dixie youth action last week, and the smooth-running tournaments held in Victoria and Kenbridge represented the area well.

The Lunenburg County Youth Baseball League (LCYBL) hosted the state Dixie Youth Baseball all-star tournaments for both the Major League and AA Machine Pitch age divisions at Lenhart and Neblett fields, respectively, in Victoria.

“I’d to like to thank all the volunteers and congratulate all the winners,” LCYBL President David Clark said.

Lunenburg had teams that were highly competitive in both tournaments, and Clark expects the events should prove to have been a good fundraiser overall for the league.

Meanwhile in Kenbridge, Lunenburg Girls’ Softball (LGS) hosted at its complex both the X-Play and traditional all-star state tournaments for the Dixie Softball Angels.

“Of course I would like to thank everyone who stepped up and ran the tournament at LGS in my absence as I was in Dinwiddie with the (LGS) Debs,” LGS Commissioner Tony Matthews said in an email to the LGS family. “Everyone who came together as our league needed and got the job done is to be commended. After all, a tournament is a fundraiser for our league, and the better the tournament, the better the fundraiser. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.”

Lunenburg was represented in the traditional tourney by an Angels team that was also highly competitive.

We commend both LCYBL and LGS for being good hosts, setting the county up for the opportunity to host more tournaments in the future.
