Rites Held For Margaret Nevins Hawkins

Margaret Nevins Hawkins, 91, of Victoria, passed peacefully at her daughter’s home on August 1, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lowell Hawkins; son, Russell E. Hawkins; grandson, James Robert Hawkins; and daughter-in-law, Susan Hoppe Hawkins.

Margaret lived in Victoria all of her life, graduated from Victoria High School and attended State Teacher’s College in Farmville. She was a member of Victoria Christian Church where she taught Nursery Sunday School for over thirty years and was a member of CWF. She is survived by her daughter, Mary K. Burnett (James “Rabbit”) of Chesterfield; son, James “Jim” “JJ” Hawkins of Victoria; four grandchildren, Brian Burnett (Elizabeth), Kenneth Burnett (Jennifer), Kara Comer (Travis) and Laurie Anne Groves; nine great grandchildren, Tristen, Breanna, Connor and Caleb Burnett; Camden and Katie Burnett, Taylor and Austin Comer and Christian Groves; many nieces and nephews. She was a devoted sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.”

Her gentle, quiet, but firm support helped build a lasting foundation for all those she nurtured.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 5, 2017, at 3 p.m. in the Victoria Christian Church with interment in Lakeview Cemetery, Victoria.
