PORTSMOUTH — Robert Woodson Cummings, 78, died August 12, 2017 with his loving wife at his side.  Son of the late Clayton W. and Hilda D. Cummings, he lived the earliest years of his life in Victoria, VA.  Bob served in the U.S. Navy (1959-1963) during the Cuban Missile Crisis and was honorably discharged.  He served an apprenticeship in welding with NNSY, received his accounting degree from ODU in 1970, and retired from the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority with 24 years of service.  Bob was a member of Park View Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and served as their financial secretary for ten years.  He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty Lou Lewis Cummings and several cousins.

A funeral service was held on August 15 in Park View Christian Church.  Burial will be in Ledbetter Christian Church Cemetery in Lunenburg County, VA on Wednesday, Aug. 16, at 3 PM.  Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth, is handling arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Living Endowment Fund of Park View Christian Church, 3201 Western Branch Blvd., Chesapeake, VA  23321, or the Cemetery Fund of Ledbetter Christian Church, c/o Shirley S.
