A Blackstone woman was killed Friday, when she was thrown from the front passenger seat in a two-vehicle crash in Nottoway County, a State Police statement said.
Betty J. Dalton, 71, was a passenger in a 1993 Cadillac traveling south on Route 609 crossing U.S. 460 when it struck the trailer of a 2005 Peterbilt tractor trailer that was traveling east on Route 460, the statement said.
She died at the scene after their vehicle struck the tractor trailer as they were trying to cross U.S. 460, the spokesman said.
Her husband, Edward E. Dalton, 80, who was driving the car, was transported to MCV hospital by State Police Med-Flight with serious injuries.
Neither Edward nor Betty Dalton was wearing a seatbelt when the accident occurred, the statement said.
A spokesperson at MCV could not be reached for a condition report.
After the vehicles hit, the Cadillac spun around and ejected Mrs. Dalton before coming to rest on the left shoulder embankment.
The crash occurred at 2:54 p.m., on U.S. 460 at the intersection of Route 609, also known as Yellowbird Road.
Trooper J. Moses is investigating the crash.
The driver of the tractor-trailer truck, John M. Anderson, 32, of Farmville, was not injured in the crash; he was wearing a seatbelt.
The Virginia State Police First Division Crash Reconstruction team is assisting with the investigation of the crash.
