High Bridge Trail will showcase its natural and historic resources on the east end side of High Bridge on Friday, Jan. 1, for a First Day Hike.

Participants should meet at the end loop of the new access road near the new picnic pods by 2 p.m.

After a brief introduction, Bob Flippen, the park historian, will guide hikers along a newly developed trail to see some interesting features including a rediscovered African-American cemetery that is the purported resting place of R.R. Moton’s mother.

Total length of the hike is one mile. For more information, contact the park office at (434) 315-0457.
