Styles and such

Recently, I have seen a few inquires about why we do not use the day of the week in our dates on community events (For example, Wednesday instead of Wednesday, April 27).
This is a great question and I am excited to hear from you, as readers.
We follow “The Associated Press Stylebook” for our newspaper. The book is a guide to using grammar and sentence structure in a correct way. It teaches us when to use “Road” versus “Rd.” and little items like that.
According to the stylebook, “Use Monday, Tuesday, etc., for days of the week within seven days before or after the current date.” That means that if there is an event happening within seven days of the current date (which would be Wednesday when we publish) then there is no need for the month and number of day.
I hope this was helpful.
