Lunenburg Historical Society seeks Photography Contest entries

- A traveling display of the winning photographs in the 2015 Lunenburg Ccounty Historical Society Photography Contest has been homed at the Victoria Public Library since mid-May. It will spend the remainder of the summer at the Ripberger Public Library in Kenbridge. The first place color photo for 2015 was submitted by Michael Hurt, of Midlothian. Other winners in the colored photo division were: David Rash (second), Carole Wallace (third) and Samantha Matthews (Honorable Mention). Bonnie Daniel, of Kenbridge, won first place in the black and white division. Calli Kunath took second place.
When travelling around Lunenburg County during the summer, be aware of photographic scenes that might make a great composition for entry in the Lunenburg County Historical Society’s (LCHS) annual photography contest. The 2016 theme is “Reflections of Lunenburg’s Yesterday.” Amateur photographers of any age many enter. There is no entrance fee, according to a recent press release from LCHS.
“Submit your most striking photograph — only one entry per person — that reflects an historic aspect of Lunenburg County. The image must have been photographed in Lunenburg County within 12 months ending Sept. 16.”
Photos submitted should be an unframed 5”x7” print (either black and white or full color) mounted without glass covering on a mat, cardboard or poster board. The entry must be received during business hours on or before Sept. 16 at one of the following locations:
• Ripberger Public Library, 117 S Broad St., Kenbridge — (434) 676-3456

“Applications to be submitted with the entries are available at the above two Lunenburg libraries. An entry, unless accompanied by a fully completed copy of the contest entry form, may be rejected. Minor digital enhancement is permitted, but images that have been significantly modified or appear unnatural will be disqualified. Original digital image or negative must be available to judges on request. The judges may declare no winners in a category. Entries will not be returned,” stated the release.
“The entrant retains all rights to the photograph submitted; however, by entering the contest, the entrant grants permission to the LCHS to publicly display the entry and use entrant’s name in the caption.”
Judging for each entry will be based on creativity, quality and originality as relevant to the stated theme. Winners in two categories will be announced in October and prizes will be awarded as follows:
• Black and White: 1st ($25), 2nd ($20), 3rd ($15), honorable mention ($10)
• Full Color: 1st ($25), 2nd ($20), 3rd ($15), honorable mention ($10)
