Central High School’s varsity baseball team is putting itself in good position to clinch the top seeds in its conference and region as athe postseason nears.
In their last four games, the Chargers have outscored their opponents 46-7, and they entered the week with a 12-3 record with five regular season games remaining.
“We have placed ourselves in a good position, but it is important to realize it’s not where we are currently but how we finish that’s important in maintaining our current seeding,” Central Head Coach Michael Atkins said. “Over the past four-game stretch, we have played tremendous defense.”
Last week, the Chargers handed visiting William Campbell High School a 5-0 loss May 3, a day after defeating visiting Nottoway High School 12-0.
Christian Hall led Central with two hits against William Campbell. Against Nottoway, Jeffrey Goodwin contributed four RBIs, and Nate Nowlin had two hits.
“The team is really coming together at the right time and playing at a high level,” Atkins said. “(I’m) very proud of the kids, their progress and our team unity. What we do now sets the stage for our ultimate goals.”
The Chargers visited Bluestone High School on Tuesday, and they are set to host Goochland High School on Thursday and Sussex Central High School on Friday. Both games will start at 5 p.m.
