LUFC U12 team wins title

The Lunenburg United Football Club (LUFC) U12 Team 2 closed its fall season by winning the Southern Virginia Soccer Club Tournament that was hosted by Charlotte County Youth Soccer at Central Middle School on Nov. 4-5.

There were two U12 teams for LUFC this fall, and they faced each other in the six-team tournament. Team a2, coached by Kristin Hite and Mike Bender, advanced to the championship game after defeating LUFC U12 Team 1 coached by Laura Bailey.

Team 2 faced a squad from Mecklenburg United Football Club in the Nov. 5 championship game and prevailed 3-1.

LUFC is part of the Southern Virginia Soccer League. Games are played in the fall in South Hill, Clarksville, Chase City, Charlotte Court House and in Lunenburg.

The youngest age groups which consist of 3, 4 and 5 year olds play only in Lunenburg. All other age groups travel to the other locations in the league during the seven-week season.

For the LUFC’s 2017 fall season, it fielded two U8 teams, three U10 teams, two U12 teams, one U15 team and a U19 team. Parent volunteers coach the teams.
