Delegate Thomas C. “Tommy” Wright Jr. (R-Lunenburg) has announced that he will be awarding the “Tommy Wright Legislative Scholarship” to eight high school seniors in the 61st district.
For the 18th year, Delegate Wright is offering eight, $250 scholarships — $2,000 total — to a senior meeting the eligibility requirements at each of the eight high schools in the 61st District. Since the scholarship’s inception, Wright has awarded 140 seniors with more than $35,000 in scholarships.
“During my nearly two decades in the Virginia General Assembly, I have always been an advocate for educational opportunities,” said Wright. “Honoring hard working students is important, I hope this scholarship serves as a positive recognition honoring student achievement.”
To be eligible for one of these scholarships, a senior must reside in the 61st House District as well as be accepted and enrolled in a Virginia College or University. Additionally, a portion of the application process for interested seniors includes a written essay, to be no more than one page, explaining why this scholarship is important to them.
Applications, which can be found in the guidance counselors’ offices in each of the eight high schools located in the 61st District, are to be completed and postmarked by 5 p.m., April 26. Completed forms should be mailed to: Nancy Snead, P.O. Box 1323, Victoria VA 23974-1323.
For additional details, students or persons with interest may contact any of the eight guidance departments or Delegate Wright’s office at (434)696-3061.
