Kenbridge Fire Department responded to a house fire early Tuesday morning in which a Brunswick resident died, according to Kenbridge Fire Department Chief Richard “Dickie” Harris.
Harris said the fire occurred at 915 Jonesboro Church Road.
Edward Russell Ghee, 80, died as a result of the fire, Harris said.
Harris said Kenbridge Fire Department was notified of the fire at approximately 5:50 a.m. He said Kenbridge was the first organization on scene. By the time firefighters arrived at the residence, the house was fully engulfed, Harris said.
Harris said Kenbridge Fire Department, Blackstone Volunteer Fire Department, Alberta Volunteer Fire Department and Lawrenceville Volunteer Fire Department responded to the incident.
Harris said Ghee and his wife were at the house at the time of the fire. Harris said his wife escaped, and attempted to help Ghee escape but could not do so.
Harris said the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. The house was determined to be a total loss. He said there were no working smoke alarms at the residence.
