Mike Hankins, Brown’s Store District Supervisor with the Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors, was appointed chairman of the Commonwealth Regional Council (CRC) during its meeting June 19.
Hankins succeeds Amelia County Chairman and CRC Chairman Tommy Gleason. Hankins was nominated and voted in favor of being chairman by the CRC. The term for CRC chairman is two years.
Gleason was appointed vice president and Charlotte County Chairman and County Seat Supervisor Gary Walker was appointed secretary. Buckingham County District Four Supervisor Morgan Dunnavant will continue in his current role as CRC treasurer.
Hankins praised Gleason’s role in the CRC. Gleason was nominated to serve on the Virginia Association of Planning District Commissions Board of Directors. A vote would take place at a state conference on July 24-26.
“He’s done an outstanding job as our chair,” Hankins said about Gleason’s services to the CRC, particularly during a time of transition in the organization. To Gleason, he said, “Thank you for your work.”
