Central High School’s varsity golf team made history last season when it snapped Randolph-Henry High School’s 16-year-long winning streak against district opponents, and Monday, the Chargers made it two years in a row that they have upset the Statesmen.
On a day of rough performances for both teams at Lunenburg Country Club, Central emerged on top with a 178 team score, one stroke better than Randolph-Henry’s 179.
“Honestly, they just didn’t have a good day, really, because we didn’t either,” Chargers Head Coach Richard McDaniel said. “… I really felt like we would have needed to shoot in the 160s, probably mid-160s even at our place, to be able to have a shot.”
Central’s Cole Williams led all golfers with a strong 38.
