Patrick Williams is a candidate for the District 4 seat on the school board in Lunenburg County. He is a veteran in many ways.
He served as a United States Navy Ordnance man for over 28 years, retiring as a Command Master Chief Petty Officer. One of his many duties and one of his most important was as a Certified Navy Instructor, teaching the sons and daughters of this country how to work with very hazardous devices and how to react in extremely dangerous situations. Upon retirement he accepted employment locally and served as a substitute teacher and a qualified school bus driver. He obtained his degree from Columbia College while on active duty but obtained his teaching credentials from the Mary Baldwin College Academic Professional Licensing Program (off campus) graduating with honors. His first civilian teaching position was as an Adult Basic Education Instructor in Charlotte County after which he continued as a G.E.D. instructor teaching incarcerated offenders at the Lawrenceville Correctional Center. He accepted a teaching position with Lunenburg County in 2013.
Williams taught fourth-graders at Kenbridge Elementary School for two years. Later, answering a personal request, he voluntarily moved to Victoria Elementary School where he taught second grade. His efforts improved benchmark testing scores well beyond the norm. His former students are always eager to see him and tell him how much his instruction prepared them for continued success.
Williams brings the skills of creative teaching techniques, attention to detail, compliance with regulations, and the ability to adapt and overcome combined with a genuine love for shaping the minds and character of our youth. Having never served on a school board before, he vows to learn first and to apply required disciplines and regulations fairly across the board. His philosophy is, “Let the teachers teach.”
Williams has a wife of 42 years (who supported him every step of the way), 3 children and 4 grandchildren. He still teaches Bible study at local churches and is devoted to being a good steward of your tax dollar. Williams stated, “The school board position, by regulation, requires certain disciplines be strictly adhered to. I’ve been on the front lines in our school system. I know what the challenge is. I claim that I will carry out the duties of this position to the best of my abilities. I ask for your support.”
