One person is dead and another faces charges after a stabbing that took place Sunday afternoon in Rice. According to the Prince Edward Sheriff’s Office, at about 12:08 p.m., deputies and Prince Edward County medical personnel were called out to the Countyline Market, located at 27988 Prince Edward Highway.
The victim, 39-year-old Rice resident Samuel Lee, was taken to Centra Southside Community Hospital in Farmville, where he later succumbed to his injuries. As a result of the incident, deputies arrested and charged 41-year-old Rice resident Michael Webster. He is currently being held at the Piedmont Regional Jail in Farmville.
As for further details, including what led to the stabbing, Prince Edward County Sheriff Tony Epps said this was all that currently could be shared.
“This incident is still under investigation and no other details can be released at this time,” Epps said in a statement. “The sheriff’s office appreciates your patience and understanding.”
Officials have also advised residents to be careful about sharing any posts or other material about the case that come from unidentified or unconfirmed sources, as there have been a lot of speculation involving everything from motive to the situation itself.
