The Lunenburg County Republican Committee had a big night on Tuesday, May 7, as the regular monthly meeting was attended by several elected leaders and campaign representatives. Speakers included Del. Tommy Wright, State Sen. Tammy Mulchi, State Sen. John McGuire, Trump campaign representative Ramona Christian and local committee member Shannon Lewis on behalf of the Bob Good campaign.
Del. Wright and Sen. Mulchi represent Lunenburg in the Virginia General Assembly and gave an update on their work there. During this year’s session, her first in the Assembly, Mulchi pushed through an extension of Lunenburg County’s enterprise zone, which had been set to expire soon. She also attempted to push through a bill requiring athletes to compete in categories based on their biological sex. That bill died in committee. Wright also supported the enterprise zone extension, as well as filing bills honoring both the Kenbridge Construction Company and the Lunenburg County Dixie Youth Baseball All-Star team.
State Sen. John McGuire, meanwhile, spoke about his current congressional campaign. The state senator from Goochland is running against incumbent congressman Bob Good for the Republican nomination for the 5th district. The nomination will be decided in the upcoming primary on June 18. The winner will then face the democratic nominee in the November general election.
