Honors graduates recognized at Kenston Forest

Kenston Forest School’s (KFS) top three graduates were announced on May 23 at an assembly in the KFS gymnasium.
This year’s Valedictorian is Sadie Elizabeth Marie Henshaw. Sadie is the daughter of Kristin and Heath Henshaw of Sutherland. While attending Kenston Forest School, Sadie was a member of Rotary Interact, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Robotics, Forensics, and Scholastic Bowl. Sadie was elected president of the school’s chapter of the National Honor Society and held numerous class officer positions. Upon graduation, Sadie will attend Hollins University. She was awarded the Batten Scholar Award, intended to cover the full cost of tuition for four years at Hollins University. Sadie was also offered admission to William & Mary, University of Virginia, and Sewanee: The University of the South.
Robert Thomas Hawthorne, son of Nicole Hawthorne of Blackstone and Robert Hawthorne of Lunenburg, is this year’s Salutatorian. While attending Kenston Forest School, Bobby held many leadership positions, including Student Government Association President, Vice President, and Treasurer; Freshman Class President; and Fellowship of Christian Athletes Co-President. Bobby was a member of the National Honor Society, Rotary Interact, Scholastic Bowl, and Forensics. Bobby attended both the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Conference and Virginia Boys State. He received the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award. Bobby will attend James Madison University in the fall.
Historian honors, ranking third in Kenston’s Class of 2024, went to Mackenzie Hope Harmon, daughter of Robin and Johnny Harmon of Blackstone. While a student at Kenston Forest, Mackenzie served as an officer of the Student Government Association, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Pep Club. She was also the senior class president. Mackenzie attended both the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Conference and Virginia Girls State. Mackenzie will attend Auburn University. She was also offered admission to Ole Miss, University of Alabama, Mississippi State University, University of Georgia, University of Tennessee, Virginia Tech, and the University of South Carolina.
Commencement exercises for Kenston’s Class of 2024 will take place on Saturday, June 1, at 10 a.m. on Larry Clary Field.
