JULY 27

FARMERS MARKET OPEN — The Kenbridge Farmers Market is open now for the 2024 season, running from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, July 27. The market is held on East Fifth Avenue, just across from the Kenbridge Recreation Center.

FREE LOCAL MUSIC — The Rosewood, located at 11426 Courthouse Road in Lunenburg, will host saxophone player Michael Redman on Saturday, July 27, beginning at 7 p.m.

SIGN DEDICATION — The Lunenburg County Historical Society will hold the dedication of the new state historical marker on Saturday, July 27. The event will be held on Route 40 at the Lunenburg-Charlotte County line near Keysville, starting at 10 a.m. Parking is available at the nearby SVCC lot. Sign displays the history of each county as a welcome when you enter that county. There will be an informal and short service (about 15 minutes). Water provided. Bring your umbrella to deflect strong sun or rain.

JULY 28

HOMECOMING — First Baptist Church, located at 821 Lunenburg Avenue in Victoria, will celebrate homecoming on Sunday, July 28 during the 11 a.m. service. Pastor Jerry Streat will deliver the message, with music from the Poplar Lawn Baptist Church Men’s Chorus.

MORNING WORSHIP — Victoria Baptist Church, located at 1423 8th Street in Victoria, will hold worship services on Sunday, July 28, with Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. and worship at 11 a.m. Pastor Tom will continue his sermon series entitled “Filling Your Cup”.

PASTORAL ANNIVERSARY — New Bethel Baptist Church, located at 14167 Farmville Road in Meherrin will celebrate the 29th anniversary of Pastor Haney Thomas Jr. on Sunday, July 28, beginning at 3 p.m. The guest preacher will be Rev. Earl Terry, pastor of New Hope Baptist Church in Boydton.

JULY 30-AUG 1

REVIVAL — First Baptist Church, located at 821 Lunenburg Avenue in Victoria, will hold revival services at 7 p.m. nightly from July 30 to Aug. 1. Dr. Travis Warren of Spring Hill Baptist Church in Blackstone will deliver the message, with music by Sister Charlene Pond.

AUGUST 3

CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT — Kenbridge Park, located next to Town Hall, will hold a cornhole tournament on Saturday, Aug. 3. Entry starts at 11 a.m. at a cost of $15 per person, for ages 13 and up. There will be a blind draw for teams and partners, with ACL boards provided, although players are welcome to bring their own bags. The event includes cash prizes. The town will also set up boards also for kids to throw and Sweet Redds food truck will be on site.

SCHOOL GIVEAWAY — Victoria Church of the Nazarene will hold a school backpacks and supplies giveaway on Saturday, Aug. 3. This begins at 10 a.m. and will be on a first come, first serve basis. The church is located at 1404 6th Street in Victoria.

AUGUST 4

FAMILY REUNION — The Wallace/Overton/Ashworth Family Reunion covered dish meal will be held at VFW Post #9954 in Victoria. That’ll take place on Sunday, Aug. 4, beginning at 12:30 p.m. Music will follow the meal.

HOMECOMING — Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Victoria will celebrate homecoming on Sunday, Aug. 4, during the 11 a.m. service. The guest minister for the service will be Rev. Patricia Chaffin Ellis, Associate Minister of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Glen Allen. Rev. Ellis will be accompanied by the STW Trio of Lunenburg County, who will provide the music. A carryout lunch will be provided afterward.

FISH & SHRIMP FEST — Palmer Springs Volunteer Fire Department’s Catfish and Shrimp Fest fundraiser will be Friday, Aug. 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. You have drive thru or dine in options for fried catfish, fried shrimp, with baked beans, cole slaw, hush puppies, dessert and water for $18 a plate. Dinners are available by preorder only, which must be placed by Aug. 23 by calling 434-689-2661 or 434-689- 2631 before 10 p.m. daily. The Palmer Springs Fire Department’s Firehouse is located at 1697 Palmer Springs Road.

CHURCH SERVICES — Victoria Evangelical Presbyterian Church, located at 1419 8th Street in Victoria, will hold worship services each Sunday, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

CHURCH SERVICES — New Grove Baptist Church is open for in-person morning worship and teleconferences on the second and fourth Sundays at 11 a.m. In-person Sunday School will be held every week at 10 a.m. The call-in telephone number is 301-715-8592. CHURCH SERVICES — New Galilee Baptist Church, located at 4565 Plank Road in Kenbridge, has re-opened its church doors for in-person and teleconference services. These will be held every first and third Sunday, beginning at 11 a.m.

CHURCH SERVICES — Oak Grove Baptist Church, located at 127 Oak Grove Road, holds worship services on each first and third Sunday at 11:30 a.m. under the leadership of Rev. Boris Bullock.
