The Church and Community Events calendar is published each Wednesday. Items must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. Monday for that Wednesday’s calendar. Email events to CommunityCalendar@KVDispatch.com.

AUGUST 3

FARMERS MARKET OPEN — The Kenbridge Farmers Market is open now for the 2024 season, running from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, Aug. 3. The market is held on East Fifth Avenue, just across from the Kenbridge Recreation Center.

SCHOOL GIVEAWAY — Victoria Church of the Nazarene, located at 1404 6th Street in Victoria, will hold a school supply giveaway on Saturday, Aug. 3, starting at 10 a.m. This will be a first come, first serve event, with a number of supplies available for free.

CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT — Kenbridge Park, located next to Town Hall, will hold a cornhole tournament on Saturday, Aug. 3. Entry starts at 11 a.m. at a cost of $15 per person, for ages 13 and up. There will be a blind draw for teams and partners, with ACL boards provided, although players are welcome to bring their own bags. The event includes cash prizes. The town will also set up boards also for kids to throw and Sweet Redds food truck will be on site.

SCHOOL GIVEAWAY — Victoria Church of the Nazarene will hold a school backpacks and supplies giveaway on Saturday, Aug. 3. This begins at 10 a.m. and will be on a first come, first serve basis. The church is located at 1404 6th Street in Victoria.

AUGUST 4

MORNING WORSHIP — Victoria Baptist Church, located at 1423 8th Street in Victoria, will hold worship services on Sunday, Aug. 4, with Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. and worship at 11 a.m. Pastor Tom will continue his sermon series entitled “Filling Your Cup”. The sermon will be titled “Your Choice: Simple is as Simple Does.”

HOMECOMING — New Galilee Baptist Church, located at 4565 Plank Road in Kenbridge, will celebrate homecoming on Sunday, Aug. 4, beginning at 11 a.m. Pastor Jerry Streat, pastor of the Poplar Lawn Baptist Church in Blackstone, will be the guest minister. Dinner will be served after worship.

HOMECOMING — Oak Grove Baptist Church in Kenbridge will celebrate homecoming on Sunday, Aug. 4, beginning at 11:30 a.m. The guest speaker will be Rev. Sharon Baskerville from Bloom Hill Baptist Church in South Hill.

FAMILY REUNION — The Wallace/Overton/Ashworth Family Reunion covered dish meal will be held at VFW Post #9954 in Victoria. That’ll take place on Sunday, Aug. 4, beginning at 12:30 p.m. Music will follow the meal.

HOMECOMING — Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Victoria will celebrate homecoming on Sunday, Aug. 4, during the 11 a.m. service. The guest minister for the service will be Rev. Patricia Chaffin Ellis, Associate Minister of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Glen Allen. Rev. Ellis will be accompanied by the STW Trio of Lunenburg County, who will provide the music. A carryout lunch will be provided afterward.

AUGUST 6 – 7

REVIVAL — Bethany Baptist Church, located at 5968 Plank Road in Kenbridge, will hold revival services on Aug. 6 and Aug. 7, beginning at 7 p.m. each night. Rev. Patricia Barnett from New Grove Baptist Church will deliver the message on Tuesday, with Rev. Ray Smith from Unity Baptist Church preaching on Wednesday.

AUGUST 11

HOMECOMING — Bethany Baptist Church, located at 5968 Plank Road in Kenbridge, will celebrate homecoming on Sunday, Aug. 11, during the 11 a.m. service. Pastor Clark will deliver the message.

HOMECOMING — Union R.Z.U.A. Church will hold homecoming and Family & Friends Day on Sunday, Aug. 11, during the 11 a.m. service. The guest pastor will be Rev. Waverly Brown from Rosebud Baptist Church in Dundas. If you can’t attend in person, you can listen in via telephone at (425) 436-6389 – I.D.# 168944. Dinner will be served following worship.

AUGUST 12 – 14

REVIVAL — Union R.Z.U.A. Church will hold revival from Monday, Aug. 12 through Wednesday, Aug. 14, both in person and on the telephone. Rev. Carnell Bagley from St. Taylor R.Z.U.A. Church will preach on Monday, with Rev. Leslie Evans from Zion Union R.Z.U.A. Church delivering the Tuesday message. Finally on Wednesday, Rev. James Nicholson from First Church of Christ Holiness will preach. AUGUST 17

MEDITATION AT THE LIBRARY — The Meditation for Busy People class will meet on Saturday, Aug. 17 at the Victoria Library, located at 1517 7th Street. It will run from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Attendees will learn several simple research-based meditation practices to improve overall wellness that easily fit into a busy schedule. CRUISE-IN — The Heart of Virginia Classic Auto Club will hold its cruise-in on Saturday, Aug. 17 at the parking lot by Tractor Supply. The event starts at 5 p.m. and runs until dusk. Everyone is invited to bring classic or antique cars or just drop by to check them out.
