AUGUST 12 – 16

REVIVAL — Zion Hill Baptist Church in Victoria will hold their annual revival from Aug. 12 through Aug. 16, starting at 7 p.m. nightly. Prayer and praise begins at 7 p.m., with worship starting at 7:30 p.m. The guest speaker for the week is Rev. Sharon Baskerville, pastor of Bloom Hill Baptist Church. There will be a different choir each night.

AUGUST 17

FARMERS MARKET OPEN — The Kenbridge Farmers Market is open now for the 2024 season, running from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, Aug. 17. The market is held on East Fifth Avenue, just across from the Kenbridge Recreation Center.

MEDITATION AT THE LIBRARY — The Meditation for Busy People class will meet on Saturday, Aug. 17 at the Victoria Library, located at 1517 7th Street. It will run from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Attendees will learn several simple research-based meditation practices to improve overall wellness that easily fit into a busy schedule. CRUISE-IN — The Heart of Virginia Classic Auto Club will hold its cruise-in on Saturday, Aug. 17 at the parking lot by Tractor Supply in Farmville. The event starts at 5 p.m. and runs until dusk. Everyone is invited to bring classic or antique cars or just drop by to check them out.

AUGUST 18

HOMECOMING — Saint Matthew’s Baptist Church, located at 219 N. Broad Street in Kenbridge, will celebrate homecoming on Sunday, Aug. 18 at the 10:30 a.m. service. Pastor Kevin A. Robinson will deliver the morning sermon and the gospel chorus will render the music. Dinner will be served after worship.

MORNING WORSHIP — Victoria Baptist Church, located at 1423 8th Street in Victoria, will hold worship services on Sunday, Aug. 18, with Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. and worship at 11 a.m. Pastor Tom will continue his sermon series entitled “Filling Your Cup”. The sermon will be titled “Not to Be Confused With Happiness.”

HOMECOMING — Zion Hill Baptist Church in Victoria will hold homecoming on Sunday, Aug. 18, during the 11 a.m. service.

HOMECOMING — Springfield Baptist Church, located at 1784 Springfield Road in Meherrin, will hold homecoming services on Sunday, Aug. 18 during the 11 a.m. service. Rev. Dr. Ozie Bradford Jr. will deliver the homecoming message, with songs of praise by Springfield Travelers, the Men’s Choir, the Youth Choir and special guests. Lunch will be served following the service.

HISTORICAL BOOK CHAT — The Lunenburg County Historical Society will hold a book chat on Sunday, Aug. 18, beginning at 2 p.m. in the Ripberger Library in Kenbridge. Society President Steve Israel will discuss his recently published book, Remembering Roses, a history of his mother’s Lee family who lived in Lunenburg from ca. 1773 until the late 1890s. As well as family history, it is also a book portraying life in Lunenburg and much of Virginia’s Southside during this period.

AUGUST 19 – 23

Prayer and praise service starts at 7 p.m., with worship happening at 7:30 p.m. On Wednesday, Aug. 21, Rev. Barbara Reed from Levi Baptist Church in Green Bay will preach, followed on Thursday by Rev. Dr. Kevin Northam from Olive Branch Baptist Church in Dinwiddie and finally Rev. Robert Waker from Forest Baptist Church in Meherrin on Friday. Masking and social distancing is not required. FISH AND SHRIMP FEST — Palmer Springs Volunteer Fire Department’s Catfish and Shrimp Fest fundraiser will be Friday, Aug. 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. You have drive thru or dine in options for fried catfish, fried shrimp, with baked beans, cole slaw, hush puppies, dessert and water for $18 a plate. Dinners are available by preorder only, which must be placed by Aug. 23 by calling 434-689-2661 or 434-689- 2631 before 10 p.m. daily. The Palmer Springs Fire Department’s Firehouse is located at 1697 Palmer Springs Road.

SEPTEMBER 7

WIDOWER’S MITE — The Widow(er)’s Mite Group will meet on Saturday, Sept. 7 for lunch at Marino’s in Victoria. All widows and widowers are welcome.
