Residents are asked to reflect and look back over photos they’ve taken in the past 12 months. It’s time once again for the Lunenburg Historical Society’s annual photo contest, with a theme of “Reflections of Lunenburg’s Yesterday.”

If you want to compete, the contest is open to amateur photographers of any age. Entrants don’t even have to live in Lunenburg County. The rule is just that photos submitted to the contest must have been taken in Lunenburg County anytime between Sept. 1, 2023 and Sept. 30, 2024, so you still have more than a month left to keep snapping photos. There is no fee to enter and these photos can be of anything that reflects a historic aspect of the county.

Now the only other rule is that there’s only one entry allowed per person. You have the option of submitting either a black and white shot or one in full color this year. As for the picture, it must be an unframed 5 x 7 print, mounted without glass covering, on a mat, cardboard or poster board.

If this sounds like something you’re interested in, applications are available at both of Lunenburg County’s libraries. You can find them at either Ripberger Public Library, located at 117 S. Broad Street in Kenbridge or at Victoria Public Library, at 1417 7th Street in Victoria.

JUDGING AND PRIZES

Now let’s talk about the rest of the story. Judging for each entry will be based on creativity, quality, and originality as relevant to the stated theme. Winners in two categories will be announced during the month of October. Prizes will be given out in both the Black and White and Color categories. The prize amounts are the same for both categories. First place earns $25, send place gets $20, third gets $15 and honorable mention receives $10.
