One person is in jail facing charges today, linked to a series of thefts in both Charlotte and Lunenburg counties. During the last two months, multiple residents called the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, reporting property had been stolen from their homes. The items stolen covered a wide range, including but not limited to lawn and yard equipment, welders, chainsaws, boating and fishing equipment, musical equipment, firearms and money.
On July 25, deputies from the Charlotte and Lunenburg County sheriff’s offices executed a search warrant in the Keysville area. The search warrant and investigation led to the recovery of stolen property from both Charlotte and Lunenburg counties. Some of that stolen property has since been returned to the rightful owners.
Now as a result of the investigation, 53-year-old Douglas Lee Walters has been arrested and charged in connection with the case. The Keysville resident, who was booked into the Charlotte County Jail, currently has a court date set for September 6 in Charlotte County General District Court. He faces two counts of grand larceny, three counts of obtaining money by false pretense, two counts of entering a house to commit assault and battery, two counts of petty larceny and one count of possession of stolen property with intent to sell.
Charlotte County Sheriff Randy Grissom asks anyone with information regarding stolen property complaints to contact his office at 434-542-5141.
