The Delta Alpha Chapter of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International met recently in South Hill to hear guest speaker Devon Jackson, Director of Emergency Communications for the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, speak about the Brunswick County Public Safety Discovery Camp.
Jackson, a native of Gasburg, who holds a Master’s degree in vocational education from East Carolina University, is the first female paramedic in Brunswick County. She has a keen interest in teaching as well as giving back to her community.
As a result, Jackson has brought together many supporting groups within her county to make possible the Brunswick County Public Safety Discovery Camp. The camp meets for an action-packed week in the summer to provide a fun and educational experience for young people. Participants learn about public safety careers while gaining lifesaving skills for themselves and their families.
The Delta Kappa Gamma Society is an honorary organization for key women educators. The Delta Alpha Chapter has members from Brunswick and Lunenburg Counties as well as from several neighboring counties in Southside Virginia.
