Dr. Wayne Kenneth TalleyDr. Wayne Kenneth Talley, a cherished husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Jan. 29. He was born on Aug. 20, 1942, in Richmond, to the late Joseph Kenneth Talley and Doris Rose Talley Morrison. Wayne dedicated his professional career to academia and research, serving as a Transportation Economics Professor at Old Dominion University for an impressive 50 years. His passion for research culminated in his winning the International Onassis Prize for Shipping in 2018.

Wayne was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church, where he found both community and spiritual strength. His faith was an integral part of his life, guiding him through both personal and professional endeavors. Wayne found joy in dancing, a skill at which he excelled, bringing joy to himself and delight to those who watched.

Wayne is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Dorothy Cordle Talley. Together, they built a family filled with love and joy. He leaves behind his daughter, Heather Wynn Talley, and her husband Ian Perkins; his two sons, Joe Talley and his wife Tanya, and Jason “JT” Talley and his wife Megan. Wayne was also a proud grandfather to six adored grandchildren: Luke Perkins, Emily Talley, London Mark Perkins, Anna Talley, Truman Talley, and Van Talley. He was predeceased by his parents.

A funeral service to honor Wayne’s life was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, at Twiford Memorial Chapel, where the Rev. Jim Jones officiated. Wayne’s service was live-streamed on his obituary page at www.TwifordFH.com. Following the service, Wayne was laid to rest at 4 p.m. in Kenbridge Heights Cemetery, Kenbridge.

Wayne will be remembered fondly by all who knew him, and his legacy of love, wisdom and dedication will continue to inspire those who follow in his footsteps.
