County Meeting set for Tonight: Calendar for the week of March 11

MARCH 11

VICTORIA MEETING – The Victoria Town Council will hold their regular meeting on Tuesday, March 11, starting at 7 p.m. This will be a joint meeting with the planning commission, to hold a public hearing on the proposed comprehensive plan update. 

MARCH 11-12

SPRING REVIVAL – First Baptist Church, located at 821 Lunenburg Avenue in Victoria, will hold a two-night spring revival from Tuesday, March 11 to Wednesday, March 12. Services start nightly at 7 p.m., with the Mt. Bethel Baptist Church family as the guests on Tuesday and the Friendship Baptist Church family as the guests on Thursday. 

MARCH 13 

REVIVAL – Bluestone Baptist Church, located at 8708 Trottinridge Road in Skipwith, will have its monthly revival service on Thursday, March 13, starting at 6 p.m. Rev. Toney Smith and the St. Level Baptist Church family will provide the message and the music. 

PUBLIC HEARING – The Lunenburg County Supervisors will hold a joint meeting with the County Planning Commission on Thursday, March 13, starting at 6 p.m. This will be a public hearing on the proposed comprehensive plan update.  

MARCH 14 

FOOD TRUCK RODEO – The food truck rodeo will be headed to Victoria Railroad Park on Friday, March 14. Featuring at least six food trucks, including Three Roasters Brick Oven Pizza, Pippy’s Dog House and more, the event will run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. 

MARCH 15 

MEDITATION AT THE LIBRARY — The Meditation for Busy People class will meet on Saturday, March 15 at the Victoria Library, located at 1517 7th Street. It will run from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Attendees will experience research-based meditation practices for relaxation & wellness of body, mind, emotions, & spirit, which easily fit into a busy schedule. Beginners are welcome. Call or text Angie Tharpe at 434-447-9465 for more information. This is a free class.

MARCH 16

MORNING WORSHIP – Victoria Baptist Church, located at 1423 8th Street in Victoria, will hold worship services on Sunday, March 16. Sunday School starts at 9:45 a.m., with worship at 11 a.m.

WOMEN’S DAY – Friendship Baptist Church, located at 6351 South Hill Road in Kenbridge, will observe Women’s Day on Sunday, March 16, starting in the 11 a.m. service. The guest minister will be Rev. Jennifer Smith from Dinwiddie. The color theme for the service will be white or purple. 

MISSIONARY DAY – Mount Mitchell Baptist Church will hold its annual Missionary Women’s and Men’s Day program on Sunday, March 16. The service starts at 3 p.m. with guest speaker Rev. Pamela Roberts of Chase City. The guest choir will be the Finnywood Choir from Chase City. Ladies are asked to wear white with flowers. 

MARCH 18 

LADIES BIBLE STUDY – Kenbridge Christian Church, located at 519 S. Broad Street, will hold a Ladies Bible Study on Tuesday, March 18. That’ll take place from 9:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., with the group studying 1, 2 and 3rd John.

MARCH 23

MISSIONARY ANNIVERSARY – New Galilee Baptist Church, located at 4565 Plank Road in Kenbridge, will hold their 25th Missionary Anniversary on March 23, starting at 3 p.m. The guest preacher will be Rev. Aileen Moorman, associate pastor of St. Matthew’s Baptist Church in Kenbridge.  

MARCH 25

LADIES BIBLE STUDY – Kenbridge Christian Church, located at 519 S. Broad Street, will hold a Ladies Bible Study on Tuesday, March 25. That’ll take place from 9:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., with the group studying 1, 2 and 3rd John.

MARCH 29 

COMMUNITY DINNER – There will be a free community dinner at St. Paul and St. Andrew Episcopal Church, located at 512 South Broad Street in Kenbridge. That’ll take place on Saturday, March 29, with eat-in serving from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and take-out serving from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. 

VFW BANQUET – The annual VFW and VFW Auxiliary #9954 Banquet will be held on Saturday, March 29 at the Post Home. Social hour is from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. with the banquet starting at 6 p.m., followed by the program. All members and one guest per member are welcome. Members need to reserve a meal by contacting the VFW quartermaster at topharvester@centurylink.net or by calling the VFW Auxiliary Secretary at 434-480-0201. 

MARCH 30 

INSTALLATION SERVICE – New Grove Baptist Church, located at 32 New Grove Road in Kenbridge, will hold the installation service of pastor-elect Rev. Dr. Jimmy Dews on Sunday, March 30, starting at 3 p.m. Rev. Dr. James Walker, pastor of Hickory Run Baptist Church in Rawlings, will deliver the message. 

MAY 3 

FARMERS MARKET — The Kenbridge Farmers Market will open for the 2025 season on Saturday, May 3. That’ll take place from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The market is held on East Fifth Avenue, just across from the Kenbridge Recreation Center. 

SPRING FLING – The Town of Kenbridge will hold its annual Spring Fling on Saturday, May 3 at the Kenbridge Recreation Center. That’ll run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with baked goods and treats, as well as spring decorations and other gifts for sale. For more information, call Suzie Austin, Event Coordinator, at 434-676-2452.
