Central High School’s varsity football team used a potent run game and effective defense to win 35-27 against visiting Bluestone High School on Friday night.

The victory was the second in a row for the Chargers.

They generated 367 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.

Central junior running back Dontae Crowder carried the ball 29 times for 194 yard, four touchdowns and two 2-point conversions.

Sophomore running back T’zion Wilkerson gave the Chargers two 100-yard rushers as he gained 102 yards on 15 carries. Sophomore fullback Darien Jones had eight carries for 66 yards, and junior quarterback Jackson Dalton rushed three times for five yards and a touchdown.

Dalton also went 1-for-3 passing for 38 yards, connecting with senior running back Darryl Jones.

On defense, senior defensive back Khamell Roberts recorded 10 total tackles, including five solo tackles, and he had one fumble recovery. Junior defensive end Gee Ragsdale had nine total tackles, including four solo and one tackle for loss, and he had one forced fumble. Senior defensive lineman Jackson Parsons generated nine total tackles, including two solo and three for loss, and he also forced a fumble.

Senior linebacker Ben Spencer produced eight tackles, two solo, and he had an interception which he returned 15 yards. Crowder, also a defensive back, had six tackles, three solo, a fumble recovery and an interception that he returned eight yards.

Sophomore defensive end Khalil Wood finished with six tackles, three solo and one for loss.

Among other defensive contributors, senior defensive back L.J. Watson forced a fumble and had four tackles, two solo, Wilkerson, also a linebacker, recovered a fumble and had two tackles, both solo, and senior defensive lineman Jeffrey Goodwin recorded a forced fumble and two tackles, one solo and one for loss.

The Chargers entered the game fresh off its first win of the season — a 47-0 defeat of visiting Cumberland County High School on Sept. 22.

Central (2-4) visits Randolph-Henry High School (0-5) on Friday at 7 p.m.
