Kenston Forest School’s varsity, junior varsity (JV) and middle school (MS) girls volleyball teams experience more success last week but also faced a big challenge they were able to learn from.

On Thursday, the varsity Lady Kavaliers defeated visiting Tidewater Academy 3-0 — 25-15, 25-13, 25-15. The JV squad topped Tidewater 2-0 — 25-8, 25-6.

Two days prior, however, Kenston Forest’s varsity and JV teams suffered defeat at the hands of elite Southampton Academy.

The varsity Lady Kavs lost 25-19, 25-11, 25-22, and Southampton topped Kenston’s JV team squad 20-25, 25-22, 15-8.

Lady Kavaliers Varsity Head Coach Jannon Coley said that at the varsity level, Southampton is currently ranked No. 1 in the Virginia Colonial Conference (VCC), while Kenston Forest is right behind at No. 2.

“We learned a few little things we need to tweak and work on to get ready for the next one, and the next time, it’ll be here, and so I think it’ll be a huge gain for us, and I definitely think the outcome will be in our favor,” she said.

Kenston Forest’s middle school team did prevail against Southampton, 25-17, 25-19.

On the varsity level, the Lady Kavs have benefited from the return of senior middle hitter Peyton Clary, who had been sidelined due to subluxation of her knee.

Also starring on the varsity level have been senior outside hitter Indigo Dougherty and senior middle hitter Katie Suggs.

JV standouts have included eighth-grader Taylor Maione and freshmen Molly Epperson, Lilly Fuller, Mya Mahaney and Avalon Dougherty.

Kenston Forest’s varsity team has a record of 10-4 overall, 7-2 in the VCC, the JV team is 5-2, 4-2 in the VCC, which ranks the team third. The MS team is 6-1.
