The loan

Today as I sit at my desk I have no idea what to write about, so I’m calling on Jesus for an answer. I said, “Lord, You gave me this job so each week You must come up with something to tell your people about Love, Happiness, Joy, Forgiveness or whatever You choose.”

Jesus, there is so much to say about You that I don’t even know where to start. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son so that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.”

Although Jesus was not a loan, for we have but to reach out to Him and He is there, His body was on loan to us for a season.

A loan is something that is borrowed, given for a period of time and then it must be paid back. I once read that children are loans to their parents. They do not belong to us, but to God and He blesses us by letting us have them for however long or short their lives may be.

Jesus loaned my husband and I six beautiful children and our first born made his transition to be with the Jesus on Nov. 10, 2014. My family and I remember his transition as an event orchestrated by God.

On Nov. 7, 2014 my son’s brother-in-law decided to spend the night versus going home like he normally does after visiting. He was with my son when he became sick the next morning, Nov. 8, 2014, due to a blood clot. Because he was there he saw my son the moment it happened and called 911. My son’s wife was not alone during such a tragic event and we call that a blessing.

God allowed my husband and I, as well as all of our children, to make it to Delaware in record time. We came from Florida, Virginia, Maryland and New York: another blessing provided by the Lord.

The hospital was very kind to us and allowed all of us to remain in my son’s room. Although my son never regained conscious, the family surrounded him and talked, sang and prayed. I’m sure we made plenty of noise but the hospital staff did not complain; in fact they came in and talked to us and said to let them know if we needed anything: another blessing provided by the Lord.

During the night my son went into cardiac arrest — and thank God there were no other emergencies taking place on his floor because all the doctors and nurses were in my son’s room working on him: truly another blessing.

The next morning, Nov. 9, 2014, the doctors and nurses spoke to us and said they did all they could to save him but it was just a matter of time before my son left us for good.

Early in the morning on Nov. 10, 2014 my son opened his eyes and saw his family surrounding him, showering him with love and letting him know that it was alright, he could go home now and so he did, he transitioned.

The most tragic events can also turn into the most blessed events. What a blessing that Jesus allowed us to be there when my son’s last breath was drawn. What a blessing he allowed my son to say goodbye in his own way prior to leaving. And truly God, what a blessing to have been given that beautiful gift of love for 55 years.

I believe Jesus wanted me to speak on our children and to say they are not ours, but a beautiful loan from the Lord from whom all blessings flow.

Jesus, I love and trust You as my Savior and I thank You for “loaning” me Charles William Simmons Jr., he was truly a wonderful gift.

Be blessed in Jesus’ Name.
