Deacon Roosevelt Crowder

Deacon Roosevelt Crowder was born Nov, 23, 1926 to Freddie and Catherine Crowder.

He was joined in Holy matrimony to Easter Smith on July 6, 1950 and to this union six children were born. Deacon Roosevelt Crowder peacefully slipped away into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017.

He is preceded in death by his parents Freddie and Catherine Crowder; one brother, Eddie Baskerville; two sons, Wyatt and Vereland Crowder.

He leaves to cherish his memories a wife of 67 years, Easter; four children, Warren (Velma) of Chase City, Virginia; Patricia Barnette of Victoria, Virginia; Horace (Janet) of Burnsville, Minnesota; Freddie (Nicola) of Stafford, Virginia; fourteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five brothers, William (Equilla) Crowder of New York, New York, Freddie (Corrie) Crowder of Bronx, New Jersey, Willie (Elaine) Crowder of Nanuet, New York, Alvoid (Marjorie) Crowder and Jimmie (Virginia) Crowder both of Victoria, Virginia; seven sisters, Ida Gillyard of Bronx, New York, Rosa Ghee of Lawrenceville, New Jersey, Rene’ Gee, Alice (Thomas) Colbert, Ruby (Oscar) Edmonds, Christine (Roscoe) Edmonds, Martha Robertson all of Victoria, Virginia; mother-in-law, Alice Davis of South Hill, Virginia; daughter-in-law, Annie H. Crowder of Mckenny, Virginia; son-in-law, Arthur Barnette of Kenbridge, Virginia; nieces, nephews, and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Four friends he called his buddies, Willie Rainey, Carroll Ghee, Edward Bell and Joseph Rhodes and the staff at the Hospice of Virginia.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 30, 2017, 11:00 a.m. at New Grove Baptist Church, Kenbridge, with Rev. Dr. Curtis W. Bagley, Jr., B.S., M. Div. D.D. Pastor. Interment in church cemetery.
