Some of my favorite memories this fall have come walking the High Bridge Trail in Farmville and through the Victoria Railroad Park.

The Autumn Days Festival in October was one example. It was foggy, but not quite chilly. More than the weather, the camaraderie between members of the community and the joy they took both being outside and making the event a success is what made the event memorable.

A decision by the Kenbridge Town Council after a public hearing Tuesday, Nov. 21, to apply for Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) grant funding to develop a walking trail in Kenbridge, traveling through Barnes Street and Broad Street, which would connect with the existing trail in Victoria, set a course in place to make new memories.

The trail would not only benefit members of the Town of Kenbridge, who would have a venue to walk and ride bikes without the threat of vehicles on the highway, but it could also draw visitors and hikers as well.

Town Manager Robyn Fowler noted during an October meeting that the trail has the potential to bring the towns of Victoria and Kenbridge closer together and to offer visitors and tourists a new activity.

Trails could benefit nearby businesses as participants could stop by restaurants to eat or stores to browse and buy items.

I was really excited to hear of the council’s decision to start this process and was also glad to hear that the Town of Victoria wrote a letter of support for the Town of Kenbridge’s efforts.

The towns of Kenbridge and Victoria are beautiful places with lots to be proud of. The trail could further benefit the communities and allow visitors to see the same.
