Members of the Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors are set to hold a public hearing relating to the potential abandonment of a road on Route 770 during the board’s Thursday meeting.
According to an email in a November 2017 meeting board packet, the potential abandonment of Landfill Road on Route 770 was set to be undertaken by C. Todd Cage, land development engineer with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
Cage, in a phone interview in November, said that VDOT and Lunenburg County have been collaborating on different actions to take regarding the road.
A discussion of the potential road abandonment took place during the November meeting, during which county supervisors scheduled a January public hearing.
The road, according to a December meeting board packet detailing the November minutes, “only serves one landowner, RWG5, LLC dba Container First Services (CFS), who operates the local landfill. Due to landfill scales being located within the right of way and maintenance issues over the last few years, it is the county’s recommendation to abandon the road. CFS has agreed to take over the maintenance of Landfill Road.”
Cage said the road is 0.19 miles in length and begins at the Route 659 and Old Mansion Road intersection.
Additional public hearings set for the Thursday meeting include one regarding a conditional use permit request to operate an adult living facility in Kenbridge and one regarding a conditional use permit request to operate a primarily-online and mail-order business to manufacture and sell firearms in Lunenburg County.
The board of supervisors’ Thursday meeting will take place at 6 p.m. at the Lunenburg Courthouse.
