Construction on a series of apartments that will be built at the site of the Budget Inn Motel on 519 Main St. in Kenbridge is slated to begin Feb. 5, the owner of the property confirmed.

Lee Smyth said Monday that items are currently being removed from the site, and that construction will begin in the next few weeks.

“The project will start officially Feb. 5,” Smyth said, who owns the property with Vanessa Smyth, his wife.

The apartment complex will be called Willow Oak Apartments, Homes and Efficiencies, Smyth said, and is set to have 10 units.

He said the units will be for those 55 years of age and older.

Members of the Kenbridge Town Council voted unanimously during their July meeting in favor of a rezoning proposal that would allow the conversion of the motel into apartments.

Smyth confirmed that contractors for the apartments will be undertaken by R.F. Howerton, based in Warfield.

Smyth said the apartments are set to open by fall 2018.
