The Lunenburg County Public Schools (LCPS) School Board’s finance committee will hold a meeting with the Lunenburg County finance committee Thursday prior to the board of supervisors meeting, an item in the board of supervisors packet cited.
The packet item cited that the meeting will take place in the County Administrator conference room, located at the Lunenburg County Courthouse at 11413 Courthouse Road at 4:30 p.m. The board of supervisors meeting will begin at 6 p.m.
Deputy County Administrator Nicole Clark said Monday that the meeting will concern the LCPS budget for the 2018-19 fiscal year.
Prior to the Thursday meeting, mem-bers of the school board announced a special-called meeting Monday at the school board office to discuss items on the budget that needed to be updated.
Brown’s Store District School Board Representative Doug Aubel said Monday prior to the meeting that no action would be taken during it. The meeting ended up being mostly held in closed session.
Beaver Creek District School Board Representative Beverley Hawthorne said the subjects discussed during the special-called meeting related to finances and personnel.
“Personnel is not discussed in open session in particulars,” Hawthorne said.
Hawthorne said the meeting was announced because more than three members of the school board participated.
Clark said the Thursday joint meeting will be public and that she is unsure whether further discussion relating to the budget will take place at the board of supervisors meeting.
Division Superintendent Charles Berkley said in a previous interview that the LCPS School Board held a meeting Jan. 8 to allow the public to offer input on the potential budget and what allocations would need to be made.
“We had no one to speak at the public hearing on Jan. 8,” said Berkley, who noted that no draft of the potential budget had been presented during the meeting.
Berkley said the division is preparing the budget, which will be presented to the Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors in the spring.
“We are working on the budget now, and it will not be presented until late March to the board of supervisors,” Berkley said.
Members of the school board cited Monday that a finished budget is expected to be presented during a school board meeting March 28 at 6 p.m. at Lunenburg Middle School.
