Students and faculty at Central High School (CHS) will take to the runway Sunday to unite the community and raise funds for the school’s prom.
The 20th annual fashion show will take place at the school at 3 p.m.
Event Organizer and Spanish Instructor Jessica T. Watson said they have approximately 80 participants who will showcase spring wear from Peebles department store, Hibbett Sports, Dillard’s department store, David’s Bridal and Southernly Sweet Teas. Watson said several LuLaRoe consultants will also provide clothing for the event.
“We have about 80 participants in the show made up of student athletes, faculty members and Charger fans, as well as some younger siblings of our athletes that come to games,” Watson said.
Watson said the fundraising efforts for the CHS prom has evolved over the past few decades.
“The fashion show was started about 20 years ago to raise money for the prom and after prom decorations,” Watson said. “Prior to such events, the junior class sold magazines as a fundraiser. Then the elementary schools started selling them and so we had competition. Mrs. (Jean) Kunath and some parents at the time began to develop these other fundraisers, the fashion show and stew which will take place in March.”
Watson said the school’s After Prom Committee will sell a variety of desserts for a bake sale during the event.
She said participants can expect an event full of exciting spring fashion and a close sense of community.
“Please support this event,” Watson said. “It is a lot of fun and it’s for a good cause.”
