BLISS of Lunenburg, Inc., a nonprofit community organization, in conjunction with Central High School Nutrition and Wellness Students, Culinary Arts Students and the Future Business Leaders of America members teamed up together to work on a community garden project as a community service learning project that is sponsored by Virginia State University (VSU).

VSU is assisting the groups with the soil sampling, fertilizer, lime, seeds and plants.

BLISS of Lunenburg was provided land right outside of the town limits of Victoria to use as an opportunity to assist our local food banks in the Lunenburg County area. The land was donated for use by Richard Eressy. His beliefs are that working together can make a difference in our community.

Victoria resident, Curtis Bragg and his brother Ret. Lt. Colonial Whitt Bragg, Blackstone resident, provided the use of the equipment to break the ground for the half-acre garden plot.Raised beds are being built to assist residents that have a disability or mobility issues. If everything goes as well as planned, next year the garden space will double. If everyone works together, this project will assist in providing fresh vegetables from spring to fall for local food banks and citizens.

Some of the items that will be planted are kale, lettuce, cabbage, spinach, beets, string beans, potatoes, corn, squash, zucchini, eggplants, tomatoes, cucumbers, okra, sweet potatoes and much more.
