Christine Louise Freeman

Christine Louise Freeman, the daughter of Samuel and Alma Freeman was born on December 25, 1946 in Lunenburg County, Virginia.

At an early age, Christine was baptized at New Grove Baptist Church by Reverend R.S. Jackson, becoming a life member, volunteering as a Sunday school teacher, throughout her young adult years.

Christine received her education in Lunenburg County Public School System. She was a graduate of Southside Virginia Community College and Saint Paul’s College in Lawrenceville, Virginia, specializing in early childhood education. For sixteen years, Christine was a dedicated employee of the Lunenburg County Public School System, devoting her talents to inspiring young minds as a teaching assistant. Christine was also a part-time telephone operator at Fort Pickett in Blackstone, Virginia for numerous years.

Christine joined in holy matrimony to Thomas Jefferson Mayo, Sr. To this union two sons were born: Thomas Jefferson Mayo, Jr. and Christopher George Mayo.

She entered eternal rest on January 3, 2019 at the Chase City Health & Rehabilitation Center in Chase City, Virginia. She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother Jerry L. Freeman.

She leaves to cherish in her memory, her two sons: Thomas (Deloris) of Norlina, NC and Christopher of the home; two brothers: Harold H. Freeman (Joyce) of Union, New Jersey and Skuyler J. Freeman (Caroline) of Plainfield, New Jersey; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and a loyal companion, Howard Winn.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 12, at New Grove Baptist Church, Kenbridge, Virginia with the Rev. Dr. Curtis W. Bagley, Jr., Pastor. Interment was in the church cemetery.
