Those closest to Austin Ray Daniels and Hunter McCraw remember their kindness, loyalty to their loved ones, sense of adventure and the profound impact that their lives have had on others.
Austin, of Victoria, and Hunter, of Nottoway, died last week.
Virginia State Police reported a single vehicle accident with two confirmed fatalities on the morning of Thursday, April 11, shortly before 6 a.m. at West Courthouse Road, 0.25 miles west of Flat Rock Road.
A 2001 Honda Civic was traveling westbound on West Courthouse Road when it crossed the center of the roadway going off the road to the left. The civic then struck a ditch line, a tree, and then caught on fire. Police said the adult driver and adult front seat passenger succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
While family and friends have confirmed that Austin and Hunter were in the vehicle and succumbed to their injuries official notice is pending from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. When asked Tuesday morning, State Police Sgt. Keeli Hill said police are awaiting information from the Medical Examiner.
Austin, 20, was a member of an area truck club and enjoyed hunting, sometimes bringing his siblings along.
His sister, Courtney, was dating Hunter. Tina Glover Daniels, Austin’s mother, said the three of them were inseparable.
Austin’s memorial service is scheduled for Thursday at 1183 Rocky Branch Drive in Skipwith at 3 p.m. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made for Hunter as of Monday.
Austin’s mother spoke about how he loved singing and related how he showed kindness and acceptance toward his friends and classmates in and outside of school. Austin graduated from Central High School in 2017.
“It didn’t matter what happened, he just found the good in it,” Tina said.
Tina thanked members of the community for supporting the family.
Hunter and Austin worked at the same place. They were different in a lot of ways, Tina said, but often looked out for one another.
“They were good for each other,” she said.
“I just don’t know why they needed to go together,” she said, “or at all.”
