A public hearing for the proposed Fiscal Year (FY) 2020 budget has been scheduled for Thursday, June 6, 6 p.m. at the Lunenburg County Courthouse.

No changes to tax levis are being proposed, according to county officials.

Real estate tax is set for 38 cents, personal property tax is set for $3.80, merchant’s capital is set for $1.20, aircraft tax is set for $2.10, machinery & tools tax is set for $1.80 and mobile homes/barns tax is set for 38 cents.

The total county budget is proposed to be close to $35 million, compared with close to $32.9 million during the Fiscal Year (FY) 2019 budget.

Total general fund revenues are proposed to come to approximately $10.4 million, with state reimbursement for county employees proposed to come to $3.9 million as opposed to $3.1 million from the previous FY due to a 3-percent increase proposed for county employees by the state.

Revenue from machinery & tools tax is proposed to be lower in the proposed budget, at $265,000 in place of $280,000 during the previous FY.

Real estate tax revenue is proposed to increase to $3.37 million compared with $3.36 million the previous year. Personal property taxes are proposed to see similar increases at $1.9 million as opposed to $1.805 million the previous FY. Landfill host fees are expected to remain the same at $150,000 and $55,000 for landfill liaison fees.

The total proposed expenditures are set to come to approximately $5 million, compared with $4.94 million the previous FY.

There are proposed expenditure increases for various county departments, which include increases for the Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Department by approximately $30,000 to $1.27 million; the circuit court clerk by $25,000 to $297,000; Piedmont Regional Jail allocations by approximately $10,000 to $440,000, the volunteer fire & rescue agencies by nearly $20,000, which includes grant funding, totaling $263,200; and county administration by approximately $7,000, totaling $241,130. Planning and Zoning permits are proposed to lower from $31,200 to $9,800 and STEPS is proposed to lower from $5,000 to 0. Allocations remain the same for Southside Virginia Community College at $4,823, for Lunenburg County Public Library System at $150,274 and Piedmont Senior Resources at $2,000.
