Crowds from surrounding areas gathered Saturday to enjoy the annual Meherrin Fire & Rescue Independence Day fireworks display and they weren’t disappointed. Summer storms fulfilled organizers’ and participants’ wishes by skirting around the area and cooling off the day — the perfect set up to enjoy an afternoon of great food, fellowship and music followed by a spectacular fire works display.
The fireworks display started at 9:30 p.m. and was breathtaking. Chief Trey Pyle of the Meherrin Volunteer Fire Department believes there were between two to four thousand people in attendance. “I want to give a big thank you to all the sponsors for this year’s event,” said Pyle. Pyle continued, “This years success is a direct result of those sponsors hard work and dedication.”
Niki Hoyle, owner of Teased Salon in Victoria said, “I have been coming to this event for years, it’s great for families.”
On the Meherrin Fire & Rescue social media Facebook page participants were appreciative and complimentary about this year’s display. Karen Jones Hansel commented, “Thank you all so much!! It was my granddaughters first show! She smiled with wide eyes the entire time!! Best show I’ve ever seen!!! You guys ROCK!”
