Helping others in need

Maya Angelou said it best, “When we give cheerfully and accept gratefully, everyone is blessed.”
A few weeks ago, Lunenburg residents joined together to raise funds for Madison Martin. Madison, 9, was diagnosed with Germinoma, a specific type of tumor in August 2018. Since that time, she has had four rounds of chemotherapy and 20 radiation treatments.
Lunenburg residents pulled together to raise funds for young Madison by holding two lemonade stand events.
“The turnout in Lunenburg was amazing,” said Roxanne Martin, Madison’s mother. “We saw people who braved the heat just to support Madison and her stand. In Lunenburg, we sold around 7 gallons of lemonade!”
Approximately $900 was raised in Lunenburg. In addition to raising funds in Richmond and with online donations, she said they raised a total of a little more than $2,000.
The Martins had a goal of raising $500, and that was well surpassed.
It is a wonderful thing to see people and a community pull together to help those in need.
We all should remember that we never know when we may be on the receiving end of needing help and to always give back and help others when we can.
We at The Dispatch commend the citizens of Luneburg for helping young Madison and her family.
Job well done!
