Kicking it with my grandma

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Last Friday my twin granddaughters, Aphrodite and Venus, had the day off so they decided to spend it with their grandma. I had a doctor’s appointment first thing in the morning and then they took me to breakfast. While we were eating, they said “we are yours for the day and we could do anything you wanted to do.” “What do you want to do grandma” they said. I said what I always say when someone gives me a choice — shop. And that’s what we did.

First, we went to JC Penney which is my favorite store. We spent a couple of hours there. Aphrodite bought me a big mug with a cross and flowers on it. She wanted me to have a special cup when I drink my coffee.

Next, we went to Kohl’s, which I also have a great fondness for. Venus purchased three towels that had three kittens on them. It just so happens that we have three cats so she said it reminded her of them. I purchased some towels and placemats but made sure they didn’t have kittens on them because I am not that fond of cats.

Finally, we went to Walmart and let me tell you, I can spend a full day in Walmart not buying anything, just walking around looking at stuff. I actually had to make a few purchases for a meal I am making for the church so we shopped.

I wore those two girls out and by the time we got home, they couldn’t get away fast enough. I didn’t mind because truthfully, I was tired also, but I didn’t let them know that. I just said thank you girls, you could have spent your day off doing anything but you chose to spend it with me. They said it was our pleasure, we love “kicking it with our grandma!” My heart soared and I silently repeated those words to myself.

What a blessing when you have people that spend time with you, not out of duty, but out of love. The family is the fundamental institution of society and love is the glue that holds it together. Love is the thing that makes the world go around and lets us know that no matter what, everything is going to be all right.

The Bible speaks of Love and its importance.

John 15:12 This is my commandment, that ye love one another as I have loved you.

1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

I thank God that He has given me grandchildren that wants to spend the day just “kicking it with grandma.” Be blessed in Jesus’ name.
