Central High School’s junior varsity girls basketball team demonstrated its continued improvement with its second victory of the season Friday, Jan. 24, — a 31-14 result against visiting Randolph-Henry High School.

“They gave 110% every quarter, the entire game,” Central Head Coach Brittany Boswell said of the Lady Chargers. “We had a total of 11 assists, which made the difference. It gave the team this positive energy I hadn’t seen this season. Everyone touched the ball, talked and had fun. I was so proud of them.”

Leading the Lady Chargers in scoring was freshman Nej Yasharie Hardy with 10 points. Freshman Niah Webster handed out five assists, and eighth-grader AnGeLeka White-Freeman grabbed 13 rebounds.

“(De’zyha) Edmonds was a defensive monster, and (Amyrika) Lewis shot 50% from three-point (range),” Boswell said.

On Wednesday, Jan. 22, Central fell 18-16 to visiting William Campbell High School.

“We lost the lead with maybe a minute left in the game, so it definitely was a heartbreaker,” Boswell said. “However we learned a lesson and that was we cannot play at the other team’s pace, we have to play our game.”

After visiting Amelia County High School on Tuesday, Jan. 28, the Lady Chargers (2-12) will visit Prince Edward on Friday, Jan. 31, with a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
